As we enter tax season, it's important to stay vigilant against potential scams. Fraudsters often use tax-related schemes to deceive taxpayers and steal personal information. Here are some common scams to watch out for:

1. IRS Impersonation Calls or Emails: Scammers may pose as the IRS, threatening legal action or demanding immediate payment. Remember, the IRS will never initiate contact by phone, email, or text about unpaid taxes. Always verify any such communication by contacting the IRS directly.
2. Phishing Emails: Beware of emails claiming to be from the IRS or tax preparation services, asking for personal or financial information. Never click on links or download attachments from unfamiliar sources.
3. Fake Tax Preparers: Be cautious when choosing a tax preparer. Ensure they are licensed and have a valid Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). Never sign a blank tax return, and ask about any fees upfront.
4. Unsolicited Tax Refund Offers: If you receive an unsolicited offer of a refund, it's likely a scam. The IRS does not send out random refund checks.
