PAYNE COUNTY ADVOCATE COORDINATOR
Pay: $20.00 per hour

SUMMARY:
The Advocate Volunteer Coordinator provides professional staff support to CASA volunteer advocates ensuring that children involved with the CASA program receive sound advocacy and early permanency planning. This position manages a caseload of up to 30 volunteers and manages the coordination of CASA cases.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in a social service-related field or 3 years experience in volunteer coordination and/or social services; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles. Experience with volunteers given preference.
2. Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis relating to child abuse and neglect. Experience working with such families given preference.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a wide array of personalities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially editing skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
- Experience in volunteer management.
- Competency with personal computers and Windows products.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics associated with child abuse.
- Knowledge of the juvenile justice and/or social services system.
- Commitment to CASA goals and mission.
SUPERVISION:
The Advocate Coordinator reports to the Executive Director of CASA for Kids, Inc.
ADVOCATE/CASE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete 30 hours of CASA volunteer pre-service training and court observation.
- Attend Oklahoma CASA Association advocate coordinator training and other training as assigned.
- Participate in in-service and pre-service training to volunteer advocates as needed.
- Participate in volunteer recruitment.
- Screen and interview prospective volunteers.
- Review and assign cases to appropriate volunteers.
- Make and document a minimum of monthly contact with each volunteer and receive a written monthly report from each volunteer.
- Assist volunteers with the development of case plans and advocacy strategies.
- Consult with appropriate DHS staff regarding client needs and volunteer assignments.
- Provide assistance and consultation with advocates as needed.
- Consult with CASA volunteers about problems or concerns.
- Review, edit, and disseminate court reports, assuring presentation is effective, concise, and professional.
- Attend court hearings, staffings, and other meetings with or on behalf of the CASA and appropriately track all dates.
- Keep CASA volunteers updated on agency and external events, training, or other information needed in their role as a CASA.
- Motivate the CASA volunteers to fulfill their commitment to the children in their cases.
- Maintain monthly documentation in case files.
- Track and document statistical data utilizing the CASA Manager database to ensure timely and thorough case records on each case and volunteer.
- Attend available conferences and workshops for personal and professional development and the development of programs for volunteers
OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
In accordance with a CASA team philosophy, the person filling this position may be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the specified duties in this job description. These duties may include assisting with:
- Public relations/awareness and fundraising.
- Planning and implementing volunteer recognition and retention events and activities.
- Providing office coverage.
- Assist in public education about CASA for Kids, including speaking engagements and community awareness events.
- Schedule, coordinate, and/or attend initial and in-service training classes, assisting as moderator and/or presenter.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee will work in an office environment. Travel as required; may occasionally travel to sites that are not wheelchair accessible. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to moderate.
Mental: Clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgment, troubleshooting, problem-solving, analysis, and discretion; ability to handle work-related stress; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously; and ability to meet deadlines.
Physical: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel, such as keyboarding and writing. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. Must have visual acuity to read and draft reports, memos, letters, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for the incumbent to perform the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently. Must be able to speak and communicate clearly.
